Abstrakt: On a cliff above the sea, about 15 km north from the center of Tel Aviv/Jaffa lays the deserted town of Arsur. The place achieved fame due to the Battle of Arsūf between Richard the Lionheart and Saladin, a turning point in the Third Crusade. Since May 2012, the Crusader Period (1101-1265) town and its surroundings are the subject of a joint research project of the universities of Tübingen and Tel Aviv. The current research provided new results about the topographical development of the medieval town, the buildings and finds in different quarters. In addition to archaeological excavations, a wide variety of survey methods were used. The research of the hinterland revealed interesting aspects of the settlement structure (farmsteads, villages, fortifications) of a relatively small lordship in the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
