On November 1, 2016, the international seminar "Plasma gasification research in Costarica" was held at IPP.
Main topics of the lecture were related to the plasma research in Costa Rica; principal goals, achievements and perspectives for the next years. Special focus was given to the treatment of waste by thermal plasma and to the plasma gasification accompanying the cement production.
The author Adan Mora Viales described the general results of his work at LafargeHolcim, which operates a cement factory. In this factory the implementation of plasma gasification reactors for municipal solid waste treatment is planned, in order to replace solid fuels like pet coke, coal and others. Cooperation of LafargeHolcim and the Costa Rica Institute of Technology is going to lead to design, building and operation of an industrial pilot reactor in which the plasma technology for application in cement factory will be tested and improved.
