Seminar on the problems of nuclear power

IPP has organized a seminar on selected problems of nuclear power. The event was organized in the frame of the Strategy AV21 programme "Systems for Nuclear Power Industry". It was targeted on university students.

 
The seminar was held at IPP Prague and offered lectures and excursions to IPP research infrastructures: the COMPASS Tokamak and the Research Centre PALS, one of the largest laser systems in Europe.
 
Director of IPP Dr. Radomír Pánek explained the main principles of thermonuclear fusion and the objectives of ITER - the most expensive scientific project in the world. Dr. Jiří Matějíček discussed basic requiremnets of the materials for fusion reactors.
 

Current problems and challenges of nuclear power were presented by Dr. Vladimir Wagner from the Institute of Nuclear Physicsa and the safety of nuclear power was discussed by Dr. Jiří Málek from the Institute of Rock Structure and Mechanics. Finally, the social aspects of nucelar power were presented by Dr. Martin Ďurďovič from the Institute of Sociology.
