The Brepols Publishers are preparing a book with the title "From Hus to The Luther. Visual Culture in the Bohemian Reformation (1380–1620)". The book is closely connected to the research project the outcome of which was the exhibition "The Art of the Bohemian Reformation(1380–1620)", organised in 2009–2010 by the Prague Castle Administration in the cooperation with the IAH CAS. Simultaneously, a book has been published with the same title. It comprises essays dealing with the art production associated with the Protestant faith from the Hussite's period until the battle at Bílá hora, when the Catholics defeated the Protestants. The book is co-edited by Kateřina Horníčková and our colleague Michal Šroněk from the Department of Early Modern Art.

On Wednesday 26 October 2016 Pablo Avilés Florese (Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales, Paris) will present his paper "Vandalism, monuments and documents during the French Revolution. The work of the abbé Germain Poirier and the Commission des monuments (1790–1794)". The lecture which is a part of the cycle Collegium historiae atrium, will start at 3.30 pm in the Institute of Art History CAS, Husova 4, room No. 117. For more details see the attachment.

The Institute of Art History, Omnium, a civil society organisation and the city Horní Jiřetín in cooperation with Czech universities invite you to the international conference on the relationship of landscape and countryside in 17th and 18th centuries. The conference focuses on the various aspects how the landscape was shaped and perceived, on the art and architecture in countryside in the early modern times. We would like to inform you, the fifteenth issue of the bulletin Studia Rudolphina has been published. It contains a collection of articles on visual art and culture at the court of Rudolf II, but also goes further back into the 16th century in the opening text by Sylva Dobalová and Jaroslava Hausenblasová on the purchase and cultivation of exotic fruits at the Habsburg courts in Prague and Innsbruck. Markéta Ježková investigates one of the peripeteias of the well-known artistic collection of Cardinal Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle, a substantial part of which ended up as the property of the Emperor Rudolf II. Petr Uličný describes the activities of the Netherlandish artists Hans and Paul Vredeman de Vries, who were invited by the Emperor Rudolf II to work in Prague in 1597–1599, and an article by Ivo Purš deals with the symbolism of the title page of the treatise Basilica Chymica by the doctor Oswald Croll, which was the result of close collaboration between Croll and the Rudolfine painter Aegidius Sadeler II. The bulletin also contains texts devoted to Rudolfine alchemy (Vladimír Karpenko), a portrait of Hans Reinhard Steinbach von Steinbach (1570–1618) (Lubomír Sršeň), an unknown portrait of William V of Bavaria by Hans von Aachen (Antonio Dennunzio), and a number of other contributions.

Just at the beginning of July the International Bridges Group will meet in Prague for the second symposium. The major topic of the discussion will be the Charles Bridge with its spectacular gate tower. In addition, a one day trip to Písek has been planned as this medieval town is home of the oldest standing bridge in the Czech Republic.

An exhibition in House of Photography (Prague City Gallery) presents a Viennese photographer Andreas Groll as a pioneer of photography. His name is inextricably linked with the beginnings of photography in the Czech lands. The exhibition is a result of many years of research, which was generated by a rediscovery of Groll's photographs in the collection of the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

We would like to invite you to the exhibition "In Honour of Aleš Veselý. Without a Beginning, without an End", held in Museum Kampa from 2 February till 28 February 2016. With its title, the exhibition symbolically connects a series of exhibitions that Aleš Veselý (1935–2015) prepared last autumn to celebrate his eightieth birthday. Shown was a selection of works from the early 1960‘s to the present day, which in brief presented works that belong to the artist's vast creation, which is substantial and approaches the thematic range and depth of his philosophically oriented art. Apart from some famous assemblages and objects the exhibition comprises drawings, designs to the sculptural projects, blind prints of the assemblages, as well as the monumental and expressive "drawings-paintings" from 1980s. A set of four objects Q. ein sof made of polished stainless steel (2012) has not been exhibited hitherto. It presents the problem of "mirrored surfaces", which was the topic of Veselý´s work from the beginning of 1990s and which found its form in his monumental sculptures; for the last time in the Law of Irreversibility (2015) at the Terezín Memorial, the site of the former Nazi concentration camp. The exhibition was prepared by Alena Bartková, the assistent of Aleš Veselý, and by Mahulena Nešlehová from the Institute of Art History, CAS.

The Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with the Czech Association of Art Historians, announces a competition for the Dr. Alfred Bader Scholarship for doctoral students for research into European art and architecture from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. In 2016 up to three high-quality projects will be supported from the grant that has kindly been provided by the foundation Bader Philanthropies, Inc. The deadline for submitting applications is 31 January 2016. Details about the scholarship can be found in the attachment.

On Friday 20 November 2015 an international workshop on “Elites in the 20th Century: Continuity or Discontinuity” took place in the Academic Conference Centre in Husova street in Prague. It was organised within the framework of Strategy AV21 by the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. The theme of the interdisciplinary dialogue was the role and fortunes of political and intellectual elites in connection with the changes in political regimes in Central Europe in the 20th century (in particular the watershed years 1918, 1938/1939, 1945, and 1989/1990).

We have great pleasure in announcing that our colleague, the art historian PhDr. Klára Benešovská, CSc., Head of the Department of Mediaeval Art at the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, was made a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Chevalier de l’Ordre de Mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg) in Prague, on the premises of the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in the Czech Republic, Estonia and the Ukraine, on Wednesday, 18 November, 2015. The order of knighthood was conferred by Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg and Duke of Nassau, and Dr. Benešovská received it at the hands of Her Excellency Michèle Pranchère-Tomassini, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Dr. Benešovská was awarded this state decoration for her longstanding research work and outstanding results in the field of the historical and cultural relationships and artistic exchanges between Luxembourg and Bohemia during the reigns of John of Luxembourg and Charles IV. The most important scholarly achievements of Dr. Benešovská on this theme include the following publications:
