Within its May survey, Public Opinion Research Centre focused on the environment. The survey also investigated how Czech citizens evaluate seriousness of some problems related to global environment. As a most serious problems were marked the cumulation of garbage (93% „very + quite important problem“), pollution of drinking water (93%), lack of drinking water (88%) and disappearance of rain forests (88%). As a serious problem 85% of Czechs see also running out of resources of raw materials, 82% the loss of species, 81% pollution of agricultural land, 74% the overpopulation, 61% global warming, 60% production of genetically modified food, and 48% the operation of nuclear power plants.
