Attitudes of Czech Citizens towards the Upcoming Attack on Iraq

According to the Czech public, in the current situation it is necessary to maintain stability, peace and not to proceed without the approval of other countries on the Security Council. Only 24% of CZ citizens support a military attack on Iraq, which has been the lowest registered degree of consent since the start of US efforts to continue the fight against terrorism in this way. Two thirds of respondents are against the attack. The option, when the military operation would not be approved by the Security Council of the UN, recorded even more distinct disagreement. In such a case, only 13 % of the population expressed their agreement with the attack, while the overwhelming majority (76%) were against. This markedly negative attitude is closely tied to mistrust in relation to meeting the targets, which at the beginning had been declared as motives for the military operation – suppressing terrorism or at least preventing its spreading.
