Fibre lasers nowadays pass through the second stroke of their remarkable rebirth; extension of their emission wavelength further to infrared region belongs to nowaday’s scientific challenges. The proposed project dealing with RE-doped GeO2 -based specialty optical fibres can answer the call. Attention will be focused namely on doping of GeO2 -based fibres doped with Ho3+ and Er3+ potentially emitting beyond 2 um. Concept of the project is based on preparation of novel materials (preforms and optical fibres) of extremely high purity by chemical vapor deposition techniques like MCVD. Prepared optical fibres will serve as base for investigation of novel fibre lasers. Novel original findings in the field of mid-IR transparent GeO2 –based optical fibers and RE-doped fiber lasers together with knowledge of specialty fiber preparation will be the main results of the project.
