Science and Research Specialist / Research Scientist in an institutional laboratory of X-ray diffraction techniques.

X-ray laboratory Rotan of the Department of Materials Analysis of the Institute of Physics CAS (IoP) is seeking for

Science and Research Specialist / Research Scientist in an institutional laboratory of X-ray diffraction techniques.

Demands:

  • Master or doctoral degree in solid state physics, materials engineering or alike natural science branch with an education/experience in X-ray diffraction,
  • cooperative attitude – willingness to collaborate with research teams of the IoP on solution of research task employing X-ray diffraction,
  • Czech and English language knowledge both spoken and written,
  • “IT literacy” (ability to work with computers and to learn working with new programs),
  • health capability for radiation worker cat. A (regulation of State Office for Nuclear Safety No. 422/2016 providing the law No. 264/2016 Coll. – condition for medical approval),
  • advantageous are technical skills and construction abilities (machines, electronics, programming) and readiness to travel (providing diffraction experiments at external synchrotron radiation facilities).

We offer:

  • working within a collective of experienced scientific researchers, opportunities of expertise and personal development (doctoral study, scientific career),
  • stable employment with a permanent methodical focus,
  • possibility of internships and research fellowships abroad,
  • starting salary from 25 to 30 thousand CZK depending on the qualification and previous experience, further growth and rewards according to personal outputs and collaborative abilities.

Immediate commencement is possible.

Complementary information:

Rotan laboratory provides support for research groups in solid state physics and technology of progressive materials, functional materials and heterostructures (layers, nanostructures) that utilise X-ray diffraction for their structural characterisation. For this purpose, X-ray diffractometers are operated within the laboratory. The scientific personnel of the laboratory provide necessary research tasks individually in cooperation with particular research groups and scientists. This model enables the workers to specialize in selected areas of material research with x-ray methods for a longer period of time and eventually according to their personal preference, allowing them to improve their skills and expertise in that particular direction. The position of the laboratory scientist does not depend on the continuity of particular research projects, the laboratory is an institutional facility.
