Multi-conference SPIE Optics and Optoelectronics was organized at Prague under chairing of Prof. Homola within April 24-27, 2017. President of the Czech Academy of Sciences Prof. Eva Zažímalová welcome all 700 participants at the beginning. In frame of this meeting an excursion to Institute of Photonics and Electronics was organized on April 25 and experiments of preform preparation and drawing of optical fibers was demonstrated.
Institute of Photonics and Electronics CAS organized seminar 3BIO: Biophotonics and Bioelectronics for Biomedicine on Friday Nov 25, 2016.
Jiří Homola has been elected to the Photonics21 Board of Stakeholders. Photonics21 is the European Technology Platform, which represents the photonics community of industry and research organizations and develops a common photonics strategy for future research and innovation in Europe.
Urban mobility, CO2 capture and storage, integrated photonics and smart systems for personalized health-care were the four themes of interdisciplinary symposium EU-US Frontiers of Engineering that was hold from 17 to 19 October 2016 at Aalto University near Helsinki, Finland. About 60 outstanding engineers from Europe and the USA around the age of 30-45 years were selected to attend the symposium. The photonics session was co-chaired by Pavel Peterka from the Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
Physicist Marek Piliarik of IPE succeeded in the prestigious ERC CZ program which supports research, experimental development and innovation and received a grant of over CZK 40 million.
The main attraction of the International Training School on "Fibre Lasers and Fibre Optic Technology" were the lectures given by the leading European experts from both academia and industry, as well as by the "hands-on" laboratory exercises, during which they participated in the preparation of optical fibres or fibre lasers build-up.
