Established in 2001, the National Contact Centre for Women and Science contributes to building gender equality in science and research. We stimulate debates and petition for measures and steps to eliminate discrimination and gender inequalities in science. We urge action from responsible institutions, and offer solutions to improve the professional advancement of women. We carry out analyses to address the asymmetrical distribution of power between men and women in science and in society in general. We raise awareness about gender issues in science and give visibility to women researchers and their work. We support and stimulate women’s cooperation in science. We are integrated in international networks (European Platform for Women Scientists and ATGender) and contribute to the development of science policies. We participate in international projects and cooperate with similarly orientated support and research organizations abroad, especially in Europe. We are located in the sociology of knowledge, feminist theories and science studies, gender studies and public policy.
NKC is part of genderSTE - Gender, Science, Technology and Environment, the first Targeted Network approved by COST, to advance gender equality in science and technology. Our goals
- We work to achieve a higher percentage of women in decision-making positions in bodies responsible for research and development policies and in institutions of public research and higher education sectors
- We demand that grant rules in public research funding providers do not discriminate against parents of small children
- We believe that a combination of professional and private lives should not be seen as the problem of individual women but as a structural problem that should be addressed by the government and research institutions
- We initiate the collection of sex-disaggregated statistics, especially pertaining to institutions and bodies that distribute public funding for research and development
- We strive to increase the visibility of women and their work in science
- We underscore gender stereotypes in fields of study and science, and motivate girls to enter the research profession
- We engage in critical debates with responsible institutions and the public about the role of science in contemporary societies and gender equality in science

Despite various changes in academic institutions and the academic profession in last two decades (Shore 2008; Dunn 2003; Power 2003), the academic environment is still organized around the notion of a linear, uninterrupted career path (Murray 2000; Smithon and Stokoe 2005) culminating with the launch of one’s own lab.
Recenze je věnována knize Lucie Jarkovské Gender před tabulí: Etnografický výzkum genderové reprodukce v každodennosti školní třídy (2013, Praha: SLON), která je určena výzkumníkům i pedagogům, zejména základních škol - hlavním cílem publikace je přispět k rozvoji genderově citlivé výuky.
Instituted in 2004, the Czech Republic research assessment has since changed on an annual basis. In this paper I examine how researchers in the Czech Republic negotiate research assessment. Using the concept of epistemic living spaces (Felt & Fochler, 2010; Felt, 2009), I first set in context the Czech research assessment system and second explore the micro-politics of resistance in which researchers engage in their daily conduct.
Monitoring report presents data describing the status of women in Czech research and development. Data covering years 2001 to 2011 show that the presumption that share of women among scientists will grow when there is a steady increase in the proportion of women among students of universities is wrong. The Czech Republic has 50% women among people qualified for the research profession, but there is only 25.1% women among researchers in 2011.
Zpráva konstatuje, že trend zvyšování zastoupení mužů v dnes již velmi maskulinizovaném výzkumu nadále pokračuje a že se také zvyšuje horizontální segregace jak v oblasti sektorů provádění výzkumné práce, tak z hlediska oborů. V roce 2014 bylo zastoupení žen mezi výzkumníky nejnižší od roku 2001, dostáhlo jen 27,2 %. V podnikatelském a vysokoškolském sektoru zastoupení žen mezi výzkumníky klesá, stejně jako v technických, přírodních a humanitních vědách.
Publikace představuje formou portrétních fotografií a stručných medailonů nominované a laureátky Ceny Milady Paulové v letech 2009 - 2016, jejich profesní zaměření a výzkumná témata, jimž se věnují. Cena Milady Paulové byla ustavena Ministerstvem školství, mládeže a tělovýchovy ČR v roce 2009 a je každoročně udílena ve spolupráci s Národním kontaktním centrem – gender a věda Sociologického ústavu AV ČR. Je udělována vědkyním za jejich celoživotní přínos české vědě.
