Preparation of fiber lasers with a core from transparent ceramics and their use for laser surface modification of materials

Sponsor: The Czech Academy of Sciences, Slovenská akademie věd

Principal investigators: Jan Mrázek, Ph.D., Ing. Viktor Puchý, PhD., The Institute of Materials Research of SAS

Type of project: Bilateral Mobility Project

From: 2016-01-01

To:2017-12-31

The project deals with the preparation of active optical fibers with transparent ceramic core. The transparent ceramic core will be composed of yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) co-doped by europium or holmium ions. Doped transparent ceramic core will be prepared from nanocrystalline powders by spark plasma sintering (SPS). Prepared core will be over - cladded by silica tube to make a preform and the preform will be drawn into optical fiber.

The laser radiation emitted by prepared laser will be used for surface domain modification of electrotechnical steels. The final domain structures will be optimized in relation to the minimization of watt losses of the experimental material and to the optimization of thermal stresses application on the steel surface.
