Organic Chemistry

Chemistry and biology of helquats is barely explored. Our recent studies show that these helical dications are easily accessible and exhibit range of exciting properties (Chem. Sci. 2011, 2, 2314; Angew. Chem., Int. Ed. 2012, 51, 11972; Nano Lett. 2012, 12, 5835). The aim of this PhD. project is to synthesize series of novel helquats and explore their biological properties (in collaboration with Dr. Miroslav Hájek, IOCB). The work will be focused on properties of helquats intimately linked with their inherent features such as chirality (e.g. Eur. J. Org. Chem. 2012, 489). Motivated candidates interested in obtaining intensive training in cutting edge organic synthesis and at the same time be part of a project centering on exploratory biology are encouraged to enquire (teply@uochb.cas.cz, 220 183 412).
