Studied Archaeology and Ethnology at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague (awarded the title Mgr. In 2001). He then began to study for a doctorate at the same university (awarded a doctorate in 2009). Since 1993 he has worked for the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Brno, at the detached workplace in Mikulčice. Initially as a technician, since 2001 as a research assistant and deputy head of the scientific and research base in Mikulčice.

He is the author or co-author of more than 20 specialised articles.

He specialises in the Early Middle Ages, particularly the Great Moravian period. He is interested in power centres (hillforts), settlement archaeology, field archaeology, Slavic pottery and the hypothesis that the Great Moravian Empire met with a violent demise.
