• Biological samples unfold into single-protein details in the laboratory of Nano Optics.
  • The laboratory operates the National standard time and its frequency and it implements the national time scale UTC (TP), which is involved in the creation of the Co-ordinated Time UTC.
  • Fiber lasers can achieve better pump-absorption efficiency by unconventional coiling of the active fiber.
  • Highly sensitive measurement of endogenous luminescence of organisms enables non-invasive monitoring of oxidative stress
  • Optical Biosensors can be used, for example, in medical diagnostics, food quality control or environmental monitoring.

News update

Scientists have a very good idea of how the individual proteins fit together and know their structure very well. But we know very little about exactly how molecules perform their work in real time, because the processes are simply not visible. That is why the Nano-Optics Science team led by Marek Piliarik builds microscopes that cross the boundaries of conventional microscopy.
Come see inside our laboratories. Do not hesitate and register today, the capacity is limited!
Optical Biosensors team organized 10th Advanced Study Course on Optical Chemical Sensors – ASCOS2017: Biochemical sensors in medicine (July 20 - July 27, 2017). ASCOS 2017 was held in beautiful setting of Castle hotel Třešť in Czech Highland region under the support of Czech Academy of Sciences.
Erika Gedeonová won 1st prize in the Young Scientists’ Session at the XVII Workshop of Physical Chemists and Electrochemists. Congratulations!
Vice-President for inanimate sciences of the Czech Academy of Sciences prof. Jan Řídký, DrSc. visited our laboratories and met with research team leaders to talk about their work.
Multi-conference SPIE Optics and Optoelectronics was organized at Prague under chairing of Prof. Homola within April 24-27, 2017. President of the Czech Academy of Sciences Prof. Eva Zažímalová welcome all 700 participants at the beginning. In frame of this meeting an excursion to Institute of Photonics and Electronics was organized on April 25 and experiments of preform preparation and drawing of optical fibers was demonstrated.

Seřiďte si své hodinky podle našich atomových hodin.

Laboratoř vytváří fyzickou aproximaci jednotky času a realizuje národní časovou stupnici UTC(TP).

Výzkum

The team is engaged in the research of photonic and plasmonic (nano) structures and functional biomolecular files, the development of optical measuring methods and systems, the study of biomolecular interactions and detection of chemical and biological agents in areas such as medical diagnostics, food quality control or environmental monitoring.

Research covers the high power fiber lasers and their use for material processing, medicine and nonlinear optics.

Activities of the department are focused on the characterization of materials and structures destined for use in optoelectronics and microelectronics. Major attention has been paid to III-V materials, binaries GaP, InP, GaAs and GaSb, ternaries InGaP, AlGaAs and quaternary InGaAsP.

The team explores novel paths to future electrodynamic and electronic therapeutic and diagnostic methods in biotechnology and medicine. Team develops new theoretical methods and nanotechnology enabled experimental tools to analyze both active and passive electromagnetic properties of biomaterials from the level of molecules to tissues.

The newly established Nano Optics group focuses on advancing the knowledge of light-matter interactions below the diffraction limit of light as well as development of novel experimental methods that address current topics in biology, biophysics, and biochemistry.

Research in the Time and Frequency Department is focused on ultra-sensitive short-term frequency stability measurement at low radio frequency in ambient temperature, both in time and frequency (spectral) domains. Research also concerns applications of the dual-mixer time-difference multiplication method in accurate measurement of short time-delays in electronic components.

IPE carries out fundamental and applied research in the scientific fields of photonics, optoelectronics and electronics. In these fields, IPE generates new knowledge and develops new technologies.
