Postdoctoral Research Fellow in numerical modelling of active optical fibers

The research team Fiber Lasers and Nonlinear Optics at the Institute of Photonics and Electronics invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the field of numerical modelling of active optical fibers for fiber lasers. We are looking for highly motivated young professionals, who are able to work independently as well as to be good team players. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to publish and to present results at international conferences and in international journals.

Responsibilities and tasks:

The selected candidate will carry out research in specialty optical fibers and their applications into fiber laser devices. Specifically, the candidate will be expected to:

• perform theoretical analysis, numerical modelling and optimisation of design of optical fibers, namely the fibers doped with rare-earth elements,
• develop the program codes of the numerical models, usage and upgrading existing numerical models developed in ÚFE (Matlab, C++) and comparison of the results with commercial models, 
• perform experimental research of the new types of optical fibers and comparison of the experimental data with the numerical modelling.

Requirements:

• Ph. D. degree in physical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, optics, or similar,
• strong publication record in the field of photonics,
• solid background in fiber optics, optical waveguides, lasers and photonics,
• strong experience in theoretical calculations and modelling of photonic structures,
• experience in experimental research in fiber optics and laser physics is an advantage.

Terms of employment:

The initial period of employment is 1 year (with the possibility of an extension), starting from January 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
