1979-1983 Ph.D. (CSc.) in organic chemistry, under supervision of Dr. J. Vrkoč and Dr. M. Romaňuk at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Prague.
1977-1978 M.Sc. (RNDr.) in organic chemistry, postgraduate stay at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Charles University, Prague.
1972-1977 M.Sc. in organic chemistry, under supervision of Prof. J. Klinot at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Charles University, Prague.

1988 Prize of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences - member of the team awarded for a series of papers on "Biologically active compounds from defence secretions of termites".
1983 Award of the Czechoslovak Chemical Society for the best review article of the year (Valterová I.: Defensive substances of insects. Chemické Listy 77: 594-624, 1983).

since 2001 The course "Natural Products II" (spring semester) at Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Charles University, Prague.

Chemical ecology, chemical communication of insects, interactions between insects and plants, natural products of ecological importance.
