December’s survey of CVVM comprised a bloc of questions concerning public opinion on the pension system in the Czech Republic and its possible change. We asked a selected part of our respondents that are not yet retired, whether they use any form of savings or investments to put money aside for their retirement, whether they fear they might not be sufficiently secured when retired, and what are their expectations regarding the sufficiency of pensions paid by the state. 81 % of respondents assume that the state pension will not provide them with sufficient financial resources. On the other hand, only 56 % of people have their independent savings or investment plan to secure them for the retirement.

In the November investigation the Centre for Public Opinion Research included issues related to social policy. Citizens commented on the fact how much the government cares about the social situation of citizens and how citizens care about their own social situation. Furthermore, financial support of selected areas of social policy were evaluated. One question also measured public opinion about how frequently are social benefits misused by people who are granted.

According to November 2012 survey 11 % of citizens regard taxation on high-income earners as high, 21 % say it is adequate and 61 % think it is low. Taxation on average-income earners is considered to be high by 48 % of respondents, adequate by 44 % and low by 4 % of citizens. Taxation on low-income earners was supposed to be high by 75 %, adequate by 19 % and low by 1 %. 74 % of respondents think that tax rate should be higher for high-income earners than for low-income earners.

November's survey of CVVM comprised a bloc of questions concerning the social policy. Within this bloc, we posed a question, in what extent the state should take care of social security of its citizens. Subsequently, a set of questions was asked investigating, how the citizens evaluate the level of security in different areas of social policy. Approximately four fifth (82 %) of all population evaluate the social policy in the Czech Republic as rather or very wrong.
