Topic Magnetic circular dichroism
Faculty FCHT / FCHI VŠCHT
Abstract

The Magnetic Circular Dichroism spectroscopy provides information about electronic excited states of molecules. This information is essential for photosynthetic processes, absorption of light in the atmosphere (greenhouse effect), etc. In the magnetic field even symmetric molecules become chiral, i.e. they absorb the left- and right circularly polarized light differently. The spectra thus provide new information, the sign of the electronic transitions.

In the project spectra of selected dyes and other model compounds will be measured and interpreted by quantum computations. This should be enhanced by latest implementations of the theory in available commercial software packages.
