Senior mobility stay - Hydrodynamic simulations of plasma-based soft X-ray laser amplifiers

Project description: The main objective of this project is the first realization of three-stage laser chain in soft x-ray spectral region that is based on subsequent amplification of high-order harmonic pulse in two plasma amplifiers. The fully coherent ultrashort harmonic pulse will be first amplified in the transient plasma amplifier generated using technique of pumping under grazing incidence. This pulse pre-amplified to energy of several μJ will be further amplified in the quasi-steady state amplifier to reach energy of several mJ while keeping the optical properties of the seed. Using the technique of chirped pulse amplification we expect both the efficient extraction of the energy from the plasma amplifier by matching the seed duration to the amplifier gain duration, and generation of bandwidth-limited pulses. This will lead to creation of a user oriented beamline generating sub-picoseconds soft x-ray pulses of peak power higher or comparable to the currently operated and planned free electron lasers. This project will determine the fundamental parameters of individual plasma-based amplifiers as a function of pumping laser pulse parameters as energy, delays between pulses, spatial and temporal profiles, etc.

Post-doc mobility stay: Advanced thermally sprayed coatings

In compliance with the plans to extend its worldwide network of collaborating R&D institutes and to provide a platform for exchange and mobility of researchers, the Institute of Plasma Physics, Czech Academy of Science announces an opening of medium-term position for an overseas post-doctoral scientist.
Project description: The topic of the research work is designated as “Advanced thermally sprayed coatings”. Taking advantage of the unique hybrid water-stabilized plasma torch available at our institute, the visiting researcher will be involved in R&D collaboration with our established group with the aim of fabrication and characterization of advanced composite and functional coatings of a new generation. Strengthening the scientific outcomes by using other thermal spray processes (such as HVAF, cold spray) is welcome, as is a close collaboration with the researcher’s home institution during his/her visit.
Project specifications: The length of the stay is planned for 6 months. The post-doc stay is fully funded, providing a monthly salary that amounts to an equivalent of €29.200 total over the 6 months. The position is open for application until Mar 31, 2018, the tender committee will evaluate the candidates before Apr 20, 2018. The prospective commencement of the researcher’s stay is from May 1 -June 30, 2018.
Applicant qualification: PhD in Materials Engineering, not older than 7 years. Knowledge and experience in thermal spraying and surface modification/characterization techniques. Researchers from institutions outside Czech Republic can apply only.

Interested post-doc researchers are expected to send their CV, motivation letter and a brief description of the proposed topic (e.g., scope of the R&D work, specific materials, planned technologies, etc.). Please do not hesitate to contact us also in case of questions or queries.
