Gajdoš Ľubomír, PhD., Mechanics of Thin-walled Structures, Head of Department
Description of Activities
The department specializes in research in the field of mechanics of plate and shell structures with regard to their durability and reliability. The outputs are focused on ensuring integrity, long service life and high reliability of piping and other thin-walled structures, including the determination of their limited states. Other areas include the application of both theoretical and applied mechanics to safety, material and contract-based research for industry.
News
On the 22nd of June 2017, a meeting of the Center of Competence of TACR - CAMPT - was held in Brno as part of the SVS FEM s.r.o. congress, where partial results of the project conducted by ITAM were presented.
Research areas
- Safety, integrity and operational reliability of piping and other thin-walled systems (determination of material fracture toughness and other mechanical properties, assessment of fatigue behaviour of piping, determination of critical defect size, determination of impact strenght, identification of steel type, assessment of safety and residual service life of defective piping, assessment of influence of defects on welds, corrosion fatigue, general/pitting corrosion, etc.)
- Material fatigue (due to mechanical loads, chemical action and combinations of influences, research on and determination of limits of microplastic deformations in steel, etc.)
- Fracture mechanics (e.g. determination of fracture toughness and its practical application)
- Material research (e.g. creep properties, hydrogen embrittlement, corrosion fatigue)
- Safety research (read more at www.campt.cz)
- Contract-based industrial research (e.g. tests of structural members, life service predictions and determination of strength)
