De rerum humanarum emendatione consultatio catholica (pars 1) - Europae lumina, Panegersia, Panaugia.

This new volume of the complete edition of Comenius's writings opens a series which – nearly fifty years after the first edition, and for the first time critically – will make available Comenius's fundamental and most extensive work, De rerum humanarum emendatione consultatio catholica (General Consultation on the Improvement of Human Affairs). This is an ambitious project of the universal remedy of humanity, which he approaches from the perspective of knowledge, politics and religion. The volume comprises the initial works of the Consultation which – unlike the rest of the Consultation – Comenius completely finished and printed during his lifetime. In the dedication Europae Lumina (To the Lights of Europe) Comenius appeals to the elites of the three areas listed above with an urgent reminder of their responsibility for the state and the future of the common world. Panegersia (General Awakening, the first part of the Consultation) discusses the universal decay of contemporary society and proposes convening a general consultation of all responsible people as the only effective way to wake up and take appropriate action. Panaugia (General enlightenment, the second part of the Consultation), being about the metaphysics of light, is a systematic methodological introduction into the entire Consultation; it presents philosophical principles of the remedy, the pansophic method, and the appropriate tools. The volume contains a critical apparatus, philological and factual commentaries, detailed editorial introductions to each of the writings, a bibliography, lists of abbreviations, indexes, and a supplement with illustrative reproductions.
