Logo

J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the CAS, v.v.i., for the purposes of the project "Implementation of the state-of-the-art physico-chemical methods for studies of innovative materials and bio/chemical processes", Reg.No. CZ.02.2.69/0.0/0.0/16_027/0008355, under the call 02_16_027 International Mobility of Researchers (MEYS, OP RDE) offers:

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW position (for the scientists currently working out of Czech Republic) for the research projects:

  1. Advanced fluorescence microscopy to study proteins on/in membranes of living cells
  2. Study of electron- and photon-induced reaction dynamics in isolated molecules and nanoparticles

1. Advanced fluorescence microscopy to study proteins on/in membranes of living cells

General requirements:

• PhD degree in physical chemistry, biochemistry or biophysics, or related field (maximum 7 years from receiving the degree)
• The applicant is/was working outside of the Czech Republic for at least two years during the last three years.
• Experience in writing of scientific papers and presentation of results (at least 2 scientific papers within the last three years)
• Advanced level of written and spoken English
• Competencies necessary for team-work

Research position in more detail:

Job description: The position is open in the field of advanced fluorescence microscopy of cellular membranes at the Department of Biophysical Chemistry. It will be part of ongoing research at the department (Dr. Amaro, Dr. Cebecauer). The studies will be focused on interactions of proteins (e.g. amyloid proteins or immune receptors) with/in cell membranes. Detailed knowledge of the dynamic interactions of amyloid proteins and receptors with/in membranes is necessary for better understanding of neurodegenerative (e.g. Alzheimer's disease) and autoimmune diseases (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis), respectively. The selected researcher is expected to bring new expertise to the host institute in the field of advanced, super-sensitive/resolution fluorescence microscopy methods, which will help with progress of our studies of protein interactions with/in lipid membranes. The selected researcher is expected to be involved in experimental work at the level of method development, sample preparation, data processing and interpretation but will be also involved in extensive microscopy measurements necessary for characterisation of dynamic processes in cells.
The visiting scientist is expected to be actively involved in regular seminars of the department, two local conferences / workshops organised by the institute and preparation of manuscript(s) based on the acquired results.
Detailed information concerning the job position are available from Dr. Mariana Amaro and Marek Cebecauer (e-mail: activity1-1atjh-inst.cas.cz).

Specific requirements:
• PhD thesis in the field of fluorescence microscopy/spectroscopy of proteins or lipid membranes.
• Previous experience with biophysical, biochemical or cell biological laboratory work (at least 3 years)
• Good skills with MATLAB or other image data processing
• Good scientific record

Position starts: 1 May, 2018
Duration of the job: 9 months
Contract type: full-time position
Job location: Prague

Documents required from the candidate:
Application form (see the attached file) with CV, diploma copy, brief summary of previous research, list of publications, names plus e-mail addresses of 1 - 2 references, a document proving that the applicant is/was working out of the Czech Republic for 2 years from the last 3 years.
Applications with required documents must be submitted via e-mail to a contact person for HR and administrative issues: Marketa Zapletalova, marketa.zapletalovaatjh-inst.cas.cz

Applications deadline: April 30, 2018
By providing us your personal data in your CV, you have allowed J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the CAS, v.v.i. to process and file your CV in the HR database. Your personal data will be used for the internal HR needs of J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the CAS, v.v.i. only.
At the same time you confirm herewith that the personal data as stated in the CV you have sent to us is true and accurate.

2. Study of electron- and photon-induced reaction dynamics in isolated molecules and nanoparticles

General requirements:

• Experience with writing scientific papers and publishing in impacted journal (at least 2 scientific papers in last three years)
• Advanced level of written and spoken English
• PhD degree in physics, chemistry or technical sciences (maximum 7 years from receiving a degree)
• The applicant is/was working out of the Czech Republic for two years from last three years.
• Competencies necessary for team work.

Research position in more details:
Job description: The postdoc will work on the experimental project related to dynamics of ultrafast nuclear motion in molecular systems. The impetus for the dynamical change will be given either by an interaction with a free electron (formation of resonance) or by an IR/UV photon absorption. The main stress will be on the change of the reaction dynamics upon complexation of the target system: how does the fragmentation pattern, kinetics and dynamics change with the formation of the hydrogen bonding and with embedding the target molecules in the nano-environment. The postdoc will use experimental techniques available at the Department of Molecular and Cluster Dynamics for probing both gas phase and cluster targets, e.g., quantitative electron collision setups, momentum imaging, nanosecond IR/UV laser systems, cluster beam setup.
More information concerning the job position are available from Dr. Juraj Fedor (e-mail: activity1-3atjh-inst.cas.cz).

Specific requirements:
• PhD degree in the field of AMO physics or physical chemistry
• Previous experience with experimental work on electron/atom/molecular collisions or laser physics. Experience with building scientific instrumentation is an asset.
• Good skills with high vacuum systems, laboratory electronics and optics.
