Approach & Techniques

To fully understand how alteration in ion channel function cause disease, we need to know the normal location and function of the channel subunit, consequences of the mutation for biogenesis and biophysical properties, and possible compensatory changes in other channels that contribute to cell or circuit excitability.

The laboratory uses a combination of electrophysiological recordings (patch-clamp), confocal microscopy imaging, molecular and biochemical assays, and takes advantage of genetic rodent models of human disease.
