The president of Czech Academy of Sciences prof. Eva Zažímalová visited the Institute of Plasma Physics on May 4, 2018.
IPP has become one of the President's stops on her round-the-academy-institutes´ tour.
Director of the Institute Dr. Radomír Pánek, presented the key research activities of the IPP
research departments and the main challenges and goals. He also introduced current and future
research projects, among them the largest project COMPASS-U. This project involves the design and
construction a new tokamak which will represent a unique research facili.
Prof. Zažímalová appreciated the complexity of IPP plasma research and, in particular, future
plans and the importance of plasma research for the society. She was also interested in the
research of thermonuclear fusion, which takes place on the COMPASS tokamak. The president of CAS
visited all research departments of the Institute. The heads of IPP research departments also
briefly introduced main research topics and their current activities and also important results and
publications.
