Nadezhda M. Bulgakova (Fyzikální ústav AV ČR)

More than 55 years passed from the creation of the first LASER, one of the most impressive inventions of the 20th century. During this time, lasers have become an instrument, without which it is not possible to imagine both everyday life as well as many fields of scientific research and industrial applications. Despite all this, laser-material interaction remains a very hot topic of research due to a wealth of contributing processes, a great variety lasers and their parameters and a much greater variety of materials, which can be treated by lasers for improving/modifying their properties...

The seminar will be devoted to presenting the results of a doctoral thesis which deals with nucleation, growth, and structuring of polycrystalline diamond thin films. In the first part, two alternative methods used to initiate diamond nucleation and growth are investigated and compared to the standardly established nucleation methods. Spontaneous nucleation is studied on horizontally and vertically oriented non-treated (i.e. absence of pre-existing diamond seeds) silicon substrates in a linear plasma CVD system using different deposition parameters. Furthermore, polymer-based nucleation is...

Abstrakt:

The capability of tagging very forward protons allows TOTEM to study various non-perturbative hadronic phenomena at LHC, including total cross-section, elastic scattering, diffraction etc. Recent measurements suggest the existence of a QCD state of 3 interacting gluons. A combination of TOTEM with CMS presents an ideal apparatus for studying central exclusive production. Both in low-mass domain, shedding light on glueball states, and high-mass domain, targeting beyond standardmodel physics, e.g. via precision measurements (like anomalous gauge couplings) or...

Mgr. Martin Golan (doktorand MFF UK)

Cryopreservation of cells is a complex process with many useful applications in basic biological research, medicine and agriculture. In this work we deepened the current understanding of the cryopreservation process both at physical and biological level. Results include characteristics of selected cryoprotectants in liquid phase, during phase transition and in solid phase, as well as their impact on cryopreserved cells states . Specifically, the level of cell viability, state of cell membrane and condition of cell nucleus (nuclear membrane, chromatin condensation, DNA strand breaks) are...

The 10th Dvořák Lecture

An important challenge in many applications, ranging from biosensors to drug delivery, is the prevention of nonspecific protein adsorption on surfaces. To address this challenge, our goals are twofold. First, we strive to provide a fundamental understanding of nonfouling mechanisms at the molecular level using an integrated experimental and simulation approach.

Takashi FUYUKI (Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Ikoma, Japan)

Electroluminescence (EL) diagnosis has been widely used as a powerful tool to analyze solar cell performance photographically. Portable Near Infrared (NIR) camera with high-sensitive Si senor will be demonstrated to detect weak EL from PV cells and modules. Precise evaluation will be feasible for various kinds of solar cells (crystalline Si, amorphous Si, CIGS thin film cells, etc.) in dark rooms. In addition, with the help of appropriate power source PV modules and strings of installed mega-solar systems can be inspected “on site” and “as is” states, which will be valuable to maintain the...

Konference / Pondělí, 02.07.2018 09:00 - Pátek, 06.07.2018 18:00

We are delighted to invite you to Prague in the Czech Republic for the “jubilee” 45th EPS Conference on Plasma Physics from 2nd to 6th July 2018.

The conference covers a broad range of plasma science spanning from nuclear fusion to low temperature plasmas, and astrophysical plasmas to laser plasma interaction. The event is organized under the auspices of the European Physical Society (EPS) Plasma Physics Division by the ELI Beamlines Czech Republic (Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences) and will take place in the famous historical Žofín Palace and the Mánes Gallery...
