On November 8-10, 2018, an international scientific conference "Historic ruins - protection, use, management" will be held in Cracow. The conference is co-funded by the Interreg Central Europe Programme within project CE902 RUINS.

First Newsletter of the Interreg Central Europe project ProteCHt2save (Risk Assessment and Sustainable Protection of Cultural Heritage in Changing Environment), of which ITAM CAS is one of the partners, was published.

On Wednesday 11th of April, 2018, the Faculty of Transport of CTU in Prague organised a Careed day on which ITAM (represented by Daniel Kytýř and Barbora Přechová) also participated. ITAM has been closely colaborating with the faculty over a long period (particularly the Department of Mechanics and Materials) - several of the ITAM's employess are the Faculty of Transport's alumni. Those interested in career at ITAM could watch a presentation and take Newsletters, brochure CET, leaflet CAMPT etc. They could also talk directly to ITAM employees and ask them any questions. Despite the competition from other exhibitors, ITAM aroused a relatively lively interest.

A seminary Current trends in the field of Wind Engineering and Disaster Mitigation in Japan a South Asian region will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018.

On the 8th of March, 2018 our colleagues from the Technical University Dresden came for a visit at ITAM. The goal of the meeting was to acquaint the colleagues from TU Dresden with our laboratory equipment and methods used at ITAM. Another goal was to apprise each other about the reasearch topics and ongoing activities in both organisations in order to boost future cooperation. It was decided that similar visits will continue in the future.

In the second half of 1990s, an increased attention was paid to the safeguarding of the built heritage and its integration into the life of contemporary society. The complexity of problems of cultural heritage called for modern interdisciplinary approach and this was started in a systematic way in 1995 by founding of a new department of the Institute - the Associated Research Centre for Historic Structures and Sites (ARCHISS) - joining together researchers from two institutes of the Academy of Sciences. The process continued, because of success in grant project competitions and now there are scientists involved in the research from other institutes and universities and two operating research units - one in Prague and one in another World Heritage City of Telč.

Roman-catholic diocese of St.Pölten and the city of Brno own a great many buildings, such as churches, rectories and monasteries. These structures do not always have a purpose, which consequently has a negative impact on urban development. Not being in use causes their decay. The current problems are of the same character on both sides of the regions' borders, caused mainly by a negative demographic development and past political events in the course of the 20th century.
