70th anniversary of the end of World War II

Dozens of events observing the 70^th anniversary of the end of World War II and the liberation of Czechoslovakia were held throughout the country. Events included commemorative ceremonies and speeches at the Prague Vitkov Memorial, in Plzeň and at Terezín. The main event was a celebratory concert at Prague’s Congress Centre May 5. Conferences and exhibitions were coordinated by the Czech Academy of Sciences’ Institute of History. The main organizer was the Ministry of Defense and the Czech Armed Forces.
