Welcome on the website of the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic (IMC).

IMC is the academic institution focused on the macromolecular (polymer) science.

The research aims at the synthesis of polymers and new polymer materials, polymer physics and physical chemistry of polymers.Monument to professor Otto Wichterle

Uniqueness of the IMC stems from the experience of the IMC scientists together with the concentration of a wide range of polymer branches on one place.

The main research covers synthetic polymers, their properties and possible utility based on a vast variability of polymer structures.
For all of the outstanding IMC researchers lets name professor Otto Wichterle, the inventor of soft hydrogel contact lenses and the founder of the IMC in 1959.
Natural macromolecules - proteins, polysaccharides, and nucleic acids are the matrix of life.
Synthetic polymers – tooth brushes, credit cards, joint substitutions in human body etc., are indispensable materials of our advanced civilisation.
To keep the pace with the technological development the IMC has invented a new Centre of Polymer Materials and Technologies. The project has been supported by the European Union funds: Prague-Competitiveness.
