The objective is to conduct a professional evaluation of electoral surveys in the Czech Republic. The project will assess all aspects of data quality and availability. We intend to create a review of all existing surveys and gather relevant materials. We also plan to make new data publicly available for secondary analyses. Moreover, we will analyse methodology of individual surveys and will construct a set of quality criteria and compare data quality across surveys. We also will assess the methods of election results forecasting. Therefore, we might be able to suggest modifications to current methodology. All outcomes of the project are going to be publicized to a wide auditorium of data users and producers through an internet information center. The purpose of the project is to offer information necessary for anyone to make active use of public opinion polls. A comparable information source is lacking in the Czech Republic at the moment.
Key words: electoral preferences, elections, election surveys, methods of survey research, public opinion polling, quality of survey data, polling and media, election campaign reporting, election forecast.

The purpose of the study is to familiarise readers with the issue of how results of social sample surveys are applied in a democratic society, and to provide an overview of Czech surveys, their types and methodology, and make a critical assessment of Czech survey research in comparison with the internationally recognised criteria for social research.
This paper summarises the main conditions affecting the quality of questionnaire surveys in the Czech Republic. It addresses the tradition of survey research, the breadth and depth of professional background, the market environment and competition, the possibilities for applying suitable methods in representative population surveys, and the degree of public willingness to participate in surveys.
In this paper the author attempts to put forth a new theoretical explanation of how the phenomenon known as “agenda setting” functions. The paper begins with a summary of current knowledge about this phenomenon, including the two theoretical explanations given to date: the psychological explanation and the explanation based on trust in the information media.
The paper provides a theoretical outline of the conditions, laws and parameters of electoral decision-making (or political choice in general) from the perspective of contemporary social sciences.
