As a staff member, you automatically become a member of the library and are entitled to use all the services.

The librarian can help you search for publications in other libraries and loan them, prepare specific scientific articles, such as prints or PDF files, and learn to use the online library resources, including the catalogues and all purchased databases. We can help you search for literature on topics you are interested in. We can also order and purchase a publication you need and have it cashed with the money from your grant.

Access to databases

The library subscribes to specialised and various periodicals. Should you be interested in the library subscribing to other periodical subscriptions, please contact the library or a library committee member representing your department. You can also use our interest form.

Access to resources is based on your work IP address. We can also arrange remote access to all resources to help you access them from home.

Your library account

If you are interested in borrowing a book, please contact the librarian (fia@ufa.cas.cz) and register. After registration, you can immediately start borrowing the titles you are interested in. Once your registration is confirmed, you can log in to your reader’s account. Then you will be able to check the status of your loans and extend them. You can also order our publications electronically.

Your results

The library provides a representative overview of your work in the CAS database, ASEP(You can find more information about the ASEP here). The database provides the data about your work for certification. Most records of your output in the ASEP database are passed to the RIV government database where each result has a certain number of points. The point value is crucial in the decision of the Government on the allocation of public funding to institutions.

When processing the ASEP records, we need your cooperation. Please tell us your social security number (this applies to Czech citizens) or birth date  (if you are a citizen of another country). This data will be processed according to the law on personal data.

Furthermore, inform us of your new publications and other results if achieved as part of your job at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics. For each publication, we need your name and affiliation. The publication has to be registered by the ASCR author named as the first author. She or he also provides the library (fia@ufa.cas.cz) with the following documents:

For publications in English:

  • Basic source – link to the FULL TEXT OF THE PUBLISHED PAPER or its printed or electronic copy;
  • Abstract in English (up to 2,000 characters), if not listed in the work;
  • For anthology texts, a copy of the cover if it is not traceable on the Internet;
  • Keywords in English unless stated in the paper, and if the result is not an abstract (short description of a conference);
  • For conference papers, details whether it was a lecture or just an appearance at the poster;
  • If the grant is not mentioned in the paper, you can specify its number.

For publications in Czech:

  • Basic source – link to the FULL TEXT OF THE PUBLISHED TEXT or its printed or electronic copy;
  • Name of the publication in English if not listed in the text – please send it in Word format;
  • Abstract in Czech (up to 2,000 characters), if not listed in the work;

The ASEP can store entries of any printed or electronic papers (but not posters) and applied outputs, such as patents, prototypes, functional models, maps, certified methods, software, technologies. The data required for registration of these types of results can be found in the internal section of the IAP site (For the staff). When in doubt, contact the library.

The ASEP entries are saved throughout the year; in January, the stored data is used to produce statistics for the CAS. In spring, the ASEP records are transmitted to the RIV by the fund provider.

The library also records your articles in high-impact journals on the IAP website.

In accordance with the Directive 6/2014, the library should manage your unique ResearcherID, integrating all high-impact publications published by you under any affiliation and at any time in your career. Please contact the library to create your ResearcherID. You will be asked for permission to manage your account via administrator access. All high-impact publications recorded in the WOS will then be related to your profile. To check your RID profile, you can search for it in the search interface (just fill in your surname without diacritics) and check whether anything is missing or redundant.

Purchased books

The books and anthologies you purchase with grants received by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics should be entered in the library catalogue. Please bring each publication to the library. We will register it with an accession number and signature and create a catalogue entry with details of the publication title, author, physical form of the book, keywords, etc. This data will help the users search for the publication in the catalogue. After registration, the publication will be loaned under your name and returned to you as a long-term loan.

If any reader wants to borrow your publication, we will contact you and ask you if you are willing to lend it for a certain time and under certain circumstances.

If you leave the IAP, you can remain a member of the library and keep using the books by discretion. In this case, we ask to be as much willing and cooperative as possible to lend the publication to your colleagues or experts.

If you want to lend the publication to someone, please inform the library. The track of the books might be useful for you, as well.

The resources you need

The library will be happy to arrange purchases or selections of the books you need.

Regarding the purchase of other sources (mainly journals), please contact the library, a library committee member at your department or use the interest form.

Reading room

In the main IAP building, there is a small reading room for the library users in room 22 on the ground floor. You can open the reading room with the card you use to enter the building.

The reading room has a computer with access to subscribed electronic resources. On the shelves, you will find the current journal issues. Older issues are stored in boxes at the back of the room. You find the journals themselves, using the list of printed journals on the reading room table or here. The cabinets include our book collection, sorted by signatures. You can find the tile signature in the catalogue. The librarian will be happy to help you.

If you take away anything away from the reading room, please note this in the workbook on the table! The workbook serves as important evidence of loans.

Thank you. We hope you will be happy with our library services.
Do not hesitate to contact us any time.
