Members of the department work mainly in modern and contemporary philosophy. Their interests are both scholarly and philosophical. They thus concentrate on individual authors and on problems within the context of their work, as well as translating texts in modern and contemporary philosophy, preparing introductory and secondary texts, and 'companions' to both authors and specific issues in their work. The members seek to contribute to ongoing philosophical debate on questions from both the Continental and the Analytic tradition. The department further organises conferences, workshops and public lectures, which seek not only to bring together philosophers from the Czech Republic and abroad but also to open the discussions to university students and interested public.
