Abstrakt:
During the ten years of its activity, the International Center for Underwater Archeology in Zadar has conducted numerous underwater surveys and excavations on various coastal sites in Istria and Dalmatia. A large number of these sites are anchorages, some of which have traces of submerged architecture from the Roman times. Harbor or port facilities of the Roman era are different, mainly in the case of elongated piers, docks or massive operational shores. They are located in different places along the coast, and without extensive excavations that would run both underwater and on land, it is difficult to determine the proper purpose. Research of the Roman ports on the east Adriatic coast by ICUA Zadar was so far focused on excavations of two ports and surveys of many others. This presentation aims to reveal some interesting positions with underwater remains of different Roman port facilities.
