The American LGBT Community and Movement have played very important roles in recent modern times in defining the discourse of non-normative sexual/gender identities. Utilizing the concept of “generations” (Mannheim, Plummer), this presentation shall examine the history of that community and movement from the pre-World War II of secret urban subcultures, to the post war era of minority rights politics, gay liberation, the AIDS epidemic, the culture wars  and finally the commoditization of LGBT identity. Generational position and transmission has been different in each of these periods, however the emergence of the digital culture has fundamentally changed the generational dynamics in the LGBT community and movement.
