Bohuslav Ošťádal graduated at the Faculty of Pediatric Medicine, Charles University in Prague (in 1963) and earned his PhD degree at Department of Pathological Physiology, Faculty of Pediatric Medicine, Charles University in Prague (1963-1966). From 1966 he works as a research worker, head of Department of Developmental Cardiology (from 2005) and director of the Institute of Physiology (1990 -1995). He was a head of Centre of Cardiovascular Research (2000 - 2012). He received degrees Doctor of Medicine - M.D. (MUDr.) in 1963, Ph.D. (CSc.) - physiology and pathophysiology (1968), D.Sc. - physiology and pathophysiology (1988) and became Professor - normal and pathological physiology, Charles University, Prague in 1992. He is the member of editorial Boards of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, Physiological Research, Cor et Vasa, Československá fyziologie and CV Network, and the member of local scientific committees at 2nd and 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and executive committee - postgraduate education in biomedicine at Charles University, Prague (President). He worked in scientific societies: International Society for Heart Research (Council member 1993-1998, Fellow 2003), International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences (Council member, Fellow 2004, president, European Section 2005 -2009, president elect 2011, president 2014), Czech Medical Academy (Fellow 2004, Council member 2004-2006, vice-president 2014), European Academy of Sciences and Arts (member), Learned Society (member 2015). Prof. Ošťádal was a Secretary General of World Congress of the International Society for Heart Research (1995), a President of International symposium on The Developing Heart (2000) and a President of Mendel symposium Genes and the Heart (2008). He is lecturing students of pathological physiology at Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and the students of basic cardiology (postgraduate education of clinical cardiologists). His publication record contains 216 full papers, 51 book chapters, 4 chapters in textbooks and 2 monographs. He was editor of 5 monographs. He has received many of significant awards and medals.
