Another part of the CRo Plus series "Summer Scientists" focuses on scientists working on biosensors that can detect serious diseases from just a drop of blood or saliva.

The aim of our research is the development of new optical biosensors for the study of biomolecules and their interactions and for the quantification of biological and chemical substances. Understanding complex biological processes (such as molecular processes related to the emergence and development of diseases) will allow for more accurate diagnosis and more effective treatment.

Fast and sensitive detection of biological and chemical agents is required in a number of areas such as:

  • medical diagnostics,
  • environmental monitoring,
  • food quality control,
  • or protection against chemical and biological terrorism.

The radio record reveals not only the principle of biosensors but also their practical use. Optical biosensors can be used, for example, in medicine in the field of monitoring and determining relationships between molecules. Monitoring the biomolecule concentrations can then be followed by the development of the disease or treatment aid.

Another useful area where biosensors can be applied is food safety - fast detection at the site of the source of food damage. And you do not have to transport the entire biosensor lab to do it, a new model of a compact biosensor will be enough.

Please note that the record is in Czech only.
