Institute of Physics of the CAS announces an open position:

Operator in the Laboratory of Electron Microscopy

Basic information:

Laboratory of Electron Microscopy (LEM) belongs to the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Science, the leading scientific institution in the Czech Republic. LEM is a user facility but it also performs measurements upon request. The laboratory consists of five staff members , who run the experimental facility and provide analysis for customers within the Institute of Physics as well as other scientific institutions, and also commercial subjects.

LEM includes SEM/FIB FEI Quanta 3S (EDS, EBSD, nanoindentation), S/TEM FEI Tecnai F20 Xtwin (GIF, Lorentz lens, HAADF), TEM JEOL 1200FX (in-situ straining holder), tabletop SEM FEI Phenom, and instruments for sample preparation (saw, grinders, polishers, electrolytic and ion milling).

Job description:

  • maintance of instruments (service, calibrations, alignment)
  • measurements of samples for customers from the Institute fo Physics
  • measurements of samples for external customers
  • training of users
  • advancement of knowledge and implemetation of new techniques/methods

Requirements:

  • University degree (Ph.D., Mgr., Ing.)
  • experience with SEM or TEM (knowledge of sample prep is advantage)
  • eager to learn and share knowledge
  • communication skills, forthcoming approach
  • ability of independent thinking and decision making
  • creativity in problem solving
  • fluency in English (written and spoken)
