Conceptualization assumes a critical character in a double sense: on the one hand, it criticizes the essence-appearance dualism dear to philosophies of Enlightenment; on the other hand, it criticizes the historical conditions that yield such mystification. In this second sense, conceptualization becomes the criticism of fetishism: fetishism or mystification is not a cognitive fallacy; it does not imply that we are misled concerning reality; rather, "mystification" - or "enchantment"- is the mode in which capitalist reality exists. So to say, capitalism exists as its own "self-denial".
