Abstract:

The capability of tagging very forward protons allows TOTEM to study various non-perturbative hadronic phenomena at LHC, including total cross-section, elastic scattering, diffraction etc. Recent measurements suggest the existence of a QCD state of 3 interacting gluons. A combination of TOTEM with CMS presents an ideal apparatus for studying central exclusive production. Both in low-mass domain, shedding light on glueball states, and high-mass domain, targeting beyond standardmodel physics, e.g. via precision measurements (like anomalous gauge couplings) or missing mass signatures.
