A highlight this year for the Institute of Physiology of the ASCR is its 60th anniversary. “From brain and heart to tissue engineering,” the special event’s theme reflects main research topics of the many Institute groups.
The Institute of Physiology is the Czech Republic‘s top research institution in normal and pathological physiology. Academic and educational endeavors of its experts, many of them internationally recognized, seek to enhance the fundamental knowledge of metabolism and heart and brain function. This is how novel diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are developed to resolve serious medical problems. Chief among these are stroke, ischemic heart disease, diabetes, inherited metabolic disorders and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s or epilepsy.
The Institute has attracted research funding at both national and international levels. The BIOCEV project, carried out jointly with other Academy of Sciences institutes and Charles University in Prague, (which is supported by the EU funds) is the most significant example.
