Interview with Karel Komárek, the Principal Secretary of the Czech Commission for UNESCO
In this interview, Mr. Komárek talks about the Conference of Central European National Commissions for UNESCO, which will be held on March 25-26, 1999, in Prague. The conference is devoted mainly to themes related to science: "Role of Youth in Scientific Advancement" and "The Presentation of Scientific Knowledge in the Media".

In addition to other topics, this column focuses on the project called RODOS (Real-time Online Decision Support System). The system is supposed to help teams solve the breakdown of atomic piles with a prognosis of how serious the problem can be. RODOS gives information that is necessary for making decisions about the proper course of action should radioactive material escape from nuclear facilities.
Introducing the Institutes: Institute of Scientific Instruments, ASCR
The scientific concept and goals of the employees of this Institute are explained. Their work, based on the theoretical and methodological knowledge, is aimed at the research and development of new devices for three important branches of experimental physics: electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance and quantal generator of light.
