Dating of the "Liberec Codex"

Mon Dec 10 15:42:00 CET 2018

The Radiocarbon Laboratory CRL began with the dating of base fibers of the so-called "Liberec Codex", one of the unique objects in Czech museum collections.

It is probably the modern falsity of the Mayan Codex that could have arisen in the 1920s. Many researchers, however, believe that agave beads coated with chalk and dextrin stucco are much older and have been in the mid-15th century. Drawings and calendar data on most of them are pointless. As the author of these fantastic drawings, the famous engraver and falsifier Genaro Lopéz was named. On the six pages of the papers, however, the Mayan date of the twenty-day cycle, which is unique and correct, gives rise to a certain hope that part of the document really comes from the middle of the 15th century.

Ing. Ivo Světlík, Ph.D. and Natalia Megis in cooperation with Mgr. Petra Šťovíčková and their colleagues from the North Bohemian Museum in Liberec carried out the collection of the base fibers of the Codex on December 10, 2018. The sample will now be analyzed and its age determined using the radiocarbon dating method.
