Anotace

Azoles are a group of chemicals including triazoles and imidazoles, which are often used as pesticides and some of them as pharmaceuticals. Mechanisms of their action include inhibition of enzymes involved in steroid biosynthesis. Since the steroids have diverse essential functions in organisms; e.g., they are parts of biomembranes (cholesterol) as well as sexual and stress hormones, disruption of the steroid metabolic pathway have severe impact on the exposed organism. Because of healthy risk of the chronic exposure to azoles the application of individual azoles is regulated legislatively. However, it should be emphasized that the group content of pesticides with similar effects (i.e., mixture of chemically similar but not identical compounds, for each of them the legal limit is maintained), is not being regulated at present. Moreover, the group effects of pesticides acting similarly on living organisms is not revealed, and the same applies for their cocktail effects related to their interactions with other (essential) chemicals present in soil and organisms (e.g., nutrients, enzymes, vitamins, or antioxidants).
