Petr Vašát is a social anthropologist interested in urban studies. He works as researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He was a Fulbright-Masaryk Fellow at the Department of Sociology, Columbia University in the City of New York, a recent recipient of the Otto Wichterle Award and a short-term visiting researcher at a number of European universities, such as Durham University or University of Kent. Using various methods and tools, such as ethnography, social networks analysis, photovoice, GPS tracking or survey, his research is focused on the comparative study of architecture and urban informality; homelessness and post-socialist city; and the temporal, spatial and social dimensions of street culture. He has conducted his research in Czech and Colombian cities.
