Zaměření:

There is an increasing evidence of the backsliding of democracy in the CEE region. One of the key reasons behind is the slow progress in the fight of systemic (political) corruption. At the same time, scholars have argued that the void between the representative democracies and the citizens is on a rise, further fueling the quality of democratic legitimation processes. My key research interest is focused on the transformation of the nation-states under the EU integration process and the balance between executive, legislative and judicial power. My PhD research project aims to examine whether in the absence of public accountability and effective exercise of the normative power of the national parliaments, the nation-states are failing to strengthen their institutional integrity pillars that can and should root out corruption from the political systems. In this regard, my PhD project aims to answer whether the oversight role of the national parliament(s) has an impact on the (nation-state) institutional integrity systems and whether this affects the 'immune system' of societies to fight corruption.
