Electron-deficient [n]phenacenes as the new organic semiconductors: Synthesis, functionalization, characterization and study of thin films

This project is aimed at the development of new efficient methodologies towards the synthesis of tetra-fluoro- or aza-[n]phenacene scaffolds. Subsequent activities will be concentrated towards further functionalization of these appealing scaffolds towards electronically tuned functional π-systems. The resulting compounds will be subsequently investigated in terms of their materials properties, especially for the formation of the suitable thin films structures capable of efficient charge carrier transport and, finally, they will be incorporated into the organic field effect transistor (OFET) structure and the device performance will be tested.
