Topic Theory of interaction of molecules with the vacuum radiation
Faculty MFF UK
Abstract

Quantum electrodynamics appeared in the middle of the 20th century. One of the most important forces in biology and chemistry, van de Waals, is a quantum effect. But for many practical applications quantum character of the radiation was not considered important. This changed with the develepment of nanotechnologies. For example, the Casimir force betwenn two small conductors may be comparable to the electrostatic one. The theme of the project is development and adaptation of the theory for large molecules, within the non-relativistic approximation. It is desirable to estimate the quantum electrodynamical effects for biomolecules.
