Specialises in archaeology of the Roman Period and settlement archaeology in general.

Studied Classical Archaeology and History at Charles University in Prague; since 1994 he has worked for the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Brno. He is the head of the research base in Dolní Dunajovice, from which he supervises systematic and rescue excavations particularly around the Roman fort of Hradisko u Mušova.
