Post-doc position available: Advanced fluorescence microscopy to study cell membrane proteins in health and disease

We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist interested in learning new experimental approaches for studying proteins in cellular membranes. We expect that the applicant has experience with fluorescence microscopy or spectroscopy or, alternatively, with labelling biomaterials and/or preparation of complex nano-surfaces.

Position starts: February 1st, 2020

Duration of the job: 16 months

Contract type: full-time position

Salary: 63.000 CZK (~2400 EUR)

Job Title: Advanced fluorescence microscopy to study membrane proteins in living cells

Job description: The position is open in the field of advanced fluorescence microscopy of cellular membranes at the Department of Biophysical Chemistry. It will be part of the ongoing research at the department (Prof. Martin Hof, Dr. Jan Sykora, Dr. Marek Cebecauer). The studies will be focused on the impact of environmental factors on nanoscopic organisation of proteins in cellular membranes. Advanced fluorescence methods will include super-resolution microscopy (e.g. 3D SMLM, SOFI) but also methods compatible with the analysis of dynamic processes (e.g. FCS, FRET and variants). A special focus will be on sample preparation. This will include nanopatterning of the optical glass surface and direct labelling of monitored proteins using click chemistry. The selected researcher is expected to bring a new expertise to the host institute which will help with advanced, super-sensitive/resolution fluorescence microscopy methods or sensible sample preparation. The selected researcher is expected to be involved in experimental work at the level of method development, sample preparation and data processing. We offer a friendly atmosphere in the lab, the state-of-the-art instruments and attractive research topics.

Note: The visiting scientist is expected to be actively involved in regular seminars of the department, three local conferences / workshops organised by the institute and preparation of manuscript(s) based on the acquired results.

More information concerning the job position are available from Dr. Marek Cebecauer (e-mail: marek.cebecaueratjh-inst.cas.cz)

General requirements:

    • PhD degree in chemistry, biology or biophysics (incl. related fields) (maximum 7 years from receiving the degree, excluding the maternity leave)
    • The applicant is/was working outside of the Czech Republic for at least two years during the last three years.
    • Experience in writing of scientific papers and presentation of results (at least 2 scientific papers within the last three years; excluding the maternity leave)
    • Advanced level of written and spoken English
    • Competencies necessary for the team-work.

Specific Requirements:

  • Previous experience with, biochemical, cell biological or biophysical laboratory work (at least 3 years)
  • Good skills with MATLAB or other data processing software
  • Good scientific record

Individuals interested in the position should send a motivation letter, CV, brief summary of previous research, list of publications, and names plus e-mail addresses of 1 - 2 references to Markéta Zapletalová:marketa.zapletalovaatjh-inst.cas.cz
