On 3 May 2017, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission staff headed by Mr. Alasdair Scott visited CERGE-EI to discuss various economic policies with CERGE-EI senior researchers Daniel Munich, Klara Kaliskova, Filip Pertold and Vilem Semerak. Other mission team members were Niels-Jakob Hansen, Anna Shabunina and Olamide Harrison.
Discussion topics included policies to foster Czech economic growth; identifying pockets of idle human capital, skills mismatches, and obstacles to better employment for parents with young children and for older workers; and the Czech experience with the controlled exchange range regime.
The visit to CERGE-EI was part of the IMF’s regular mission (visit) to the Czech Republic to hold consultations of Article IV of the IMF's Articles of Agreement. IMF team members visit the member country to collect economic and financial information and to discuss the country's economic development and policies with local officials. Following the mission, the IMF team prepares a report that provides the basis for discussion by the IMF’s Executive Board. The annual mission to the Czech Republic is coordinated by the Czech National Bank, whose Governor is the Czech representative in the IMF Board of Governors. This year’s mission will continue with meetings with Czech public officials from various ministries, bank institutions, and other representatives from the financial market, unions, and professional associations. The IMF report on the 2016 Article IV Consultation with the Czech Republic is available online.
