The recently published 2018 edition of the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (part of the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities) has confirmed Charles University's position among the top 100 universities in economics (and physics) again. The university therefore maintained its position from the previous year.
This success in the field of economics (Charles University ranked 26th in Europe) is shared by the two economics institutes at Charles University, IES FSV UK and CERGE UK.
Michal Kejak, director of CERGE UK, said: „Naturally, we are very proud. Let me thank again to our faculty and researchers for their long-term dedication to their work and their excellent research results. There is the part of their job to educate new generations of scientists and set the standards for them. Despite that it will never appear in rankings, it is simply essential for the future of our field.“
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects currently represents the most comprehensive international academic ranking. Fifty-four subjects and more than four thousand institutions were evaluated this year. Detailed rankings by field were published, ranging from fifty to five hundred institutions per field. The ranking indicators include measures of research productivity, research quality, extent of international collaboration, and academic recognition.
Apart from economics and physics being in the top 100 universities globally, Charles University also ranks among the top 200 for a further dozen subjects including clinical medicine, earth sciences, ecology, geography, mathematics, pharmacology and sociology. Overall, Charles University ranks among the best institutions in as many as twenty-nine fields. The full results are available here.
Updated on August 30, 2018:
Recently published Academic Ranking of World Universities, using six indicators for evaluation (the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, number of highly cited researchers, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university), ranks Charles University among top 230 universities.
National Taiwan University Ranking ranks Charles University 188th. This ranking evaluates research productivity, research impact, and research excellence using eight indicators focusing both on short- and long-term results (number of articles in the last 11 years, number of articles in the current year, number of citations in the last 11 years, number of citations in the last 2 years, average number of citations in the last 11 years, h-index of the last 2 years, number of highly cited papers, number of articles in the current year in high-impact journals).
